Well, do you want a view or don’t you? That’s the choice you have to make between these two basic working dairy farm CLs in Flagg.
Flagg is 8 miles from Buxton in the heart of the glorious Peak District. If you like walking then this is the area for you, Dove Dale is 14 miles away and Miller’s Dale only 5 miles away.
With Bakewell with its original Bakewell Tart or Pudding, Chesterfield with its crooked spire and Matlock with its cable car to the Heights of Abraham and tram museum all within easy reach, not to mention Buxton and its Opera House and spa water to try, there is plenty to do. The must do day out is Chatsworth House home of the Duke of Devonshire. There is of course an all singing all dancing caravan site at Chatsworth but that costs over double the nightly charge at the two CLs in Flagg so you pays your money and makes your choice.
But to go back to that choice between the two CLs. They are both working dairy farms with the cows passing the site twice a day for milking and they both have electric hook-ups. If you are not bothered about having a view from your caravan then at first glance Flagg Hall seems to be the superior choice.
It is set in the village of Flagg and the site has a two acres well mown pitching area limited only by the length of your electric cable. In practice we found that everyone parked in the top area near the water tap and electric hook-ups. I have taken the size of the two sites from the Caravan Club site book but I have to say Flagg Hall looks more than twice the size of Moor Farm. There are lots of mature trees around the site which look beautiful but they do affect the TV reception on several pitches and cut out the sun. There is a varied bird population; I counted eight different kinds on my bird feeder and there are several squirrels to wreck havoc with the bird feeder!
Moor Farm is on the road leading into Flagg but there is very little passing traffic so it is nearly as quiet as Flagg Hall. The pitching area is a rectangular one acre piece of field next to the road and the caravans park around the edges. There are no trees to give any shade but on the other hand TV reception is good and you get the sun. The real difference though is the views out over the fields in all directions. Moor Farm also does bed and breakfast if you have non caravanning friends.
Flagg Hall is also much nearer the tea shop in Flagg. Cream tea anyone?
